“For He delivered us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the Kingdom of His beloved Son.“ (Colossians 1:13)
It is amazing to me how our old nature longs for the sins that were killing us. How our old, sinful nature desires the type of sin that have been forgiven. Like rebellious teens wanting to do things that will ruin their life.
We have been delivered and forgiven according to verse 14, “in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.“ Our new nature in Christ revels in the freedom of forgiveness while our old sinful nature again, desires to run back to life ruining sins. Like the Jews who wanted to return to slavery in Egypt instead of following God in the adventure He had for them.
We often want to go back to comfortable or enticing sin rather than follow God in this new adventure called “growing in Christ”. The transformation process is exciting but challenging. It brings joy but many choices. We must not go back, but forward. Am I returning to the old or am I pursuing the new? Am I looking back over my shoulder, or looking ahead with excitement? Am I foolish like Lot or wise like Abraham?
